Service enablement enhances go-to-market flexibility

Challenge

For the leader among cloud-based platform providers in the mortgage finance industry, being empowered to make market-reaction changes to their solutions was key. But in order to get to that point, they needed to service enable a large, complex platform that had been built and customized over two decades.

Solution

Service Oriented Architecture. Yes, SOA is not a term or concept that is as fresh as it was in 2005. That’s because its concepts and principals are now such a common necessity that to not have them is viewed as catastrophic. Now, new architectures are building off the foundations of SOA to provide even more autonomy, reliability, and real-time transactions.

The establishment of SOA principles, processes, governance, and infrastructure were the initial goals of IntraEdge’s engagement with its mortgage software client.

IntraEdge set up the environments, best practices, and provided a proof of concept related to true end-to-end service needs. Documentation and knowledge transfer was baked into the scope of work so that the client could become self-sustaining as quickly as possible. IntraEdge worked in a collaborative effort, until its client was comfortable moving forward on its own.

“Our client knew the challenges and the necessity of having a robust API-enabled platform,” said IntraEdge’s Delivery Manager overseeing the service-enablement project. “Laying down the SOA foundation, governance models, and tooling allowed them to start creating loosely-coupled services that were exposed internally and externally. It ultimately allowed the client to get closer and closer to their mission, to automate everything automatable in the residential mortgage industry.”

Outcome

IntraEdge was able to create a new service factory that was handed off to the client to own and operate at the right moment. During its time with the client, IntraEdge was able to create a scalable, secure Enterprise Services Bus, delivering four total environments (Dev, QA, Staging, Production), and fifty-plus RESTful web services, which supported core platform functionality.

The client is utilizing the foundations and services to create better user experiences for its own clients. It’s also leveraging new technologies, such as machine learning and analytics to continually improve its product offerings. The true digital mortgage experience continues to be perfected, due to the stable foundations it was built on, with the help of IntraEdge.
