Expanding market research through client partnerships by utilizing LTI (Learning Tool Inoperability)
5 min read
Project Details
OcuWeld, a welding in virtual reality simulation implemented by Stratatech on Meta Quest headsets, guides students in a low-pressure and safe virtual environment, that simulates real life welding.
Problem
OcuWeld’s accessibility to course content and assessments was reliant on integration with the Canvas LMS. To expand their market presence, StrataTech sought a solution to ensure both OcuWeld and their course content platform were not tied to any specific LMS.
Goals
Resolve the issue of courseware and content inoperability
Expand market reach
An overall streamlined ease of use process
Solution
IntraEdge, in partnership with Unicon, developed a platform to distribute content via LTI and manage transactions between OcuWeld and the LMS. This enables StrataTech to create content in Canvas, synchronize it to their platform, and easily link it to any LTI-supporting LMS. The improved process allowed Ocuweld users to login and submit scores seamlessly to the platform without requiring a direct connection to LMS.
Outcome
Achievements
By simplifying the login process and moving OcuWeld’s authentications requirements from Canvas to StrataTech’s platform, learners can quickly access the Welding Simulation lessons.
Stratatech’s content can now be delivered to different LMS’s via LTI, allowing more opportunities to resell the content for their B2B customers.
Streamlining a workflow to synchronize Canvas LMS authored content to StrataTech’s platform, authors continue to create curriculum using the same tools without any training downtime.
StataTech’s ability to offer that content through LTI puts them in a position to deliver their curriculum and OcuWeld VR experience to any institution implementing an LTI-supporting LMS.
By allowing integration with popular authoring tools like Rise360, Stratatech authors interactive content can now be published across any LTI compliant LMS.
The platform’s assignment tool now allows learners to submit written content, multiple assignment attempts, and easily review previous submissions and grades. While the instructor’s view can now review student submissions, grades, and provide feedback via comments seamlessly.
The infrastructure is designed to be Auto-scalable leveraging serverless and can easily scale to 100,000+ concurrent learners with minimal latency.
Technologies Used
The entire platform has been developed using cloud-native technologies, leveraging AWS Cloud services such as ECS Fargate, Aurora (Postgres) Serverless, ALB, CloudFront, S3, WAF, Athena, CloudWatch, Control Tower, and others.
The CMS (Content Management System) is powered by headless CMS: Strapi.
